BP CHIEF ADMITS COMPANY FAILED
Says they could have done more before and after.
BP CEO Tony Hayward said his company could have done more to prepare for an oil leak like the one that has spread hundreds of thousands of gallons across the Gulf of Mexico for the past three weeks. BP has come under much criticism for its unpreparedness, considering the company is so dedicated to deepwater drilling. Hayward conceded it was “probably true” that BP should have had a better emergency plan, and that the company did not have the technology to deal with the leak. He added that it would have been better if the company had technology to deploy a disaster the minute it happened, instead of “creating it as we go.” (The company will try to cap the leak for a second time on Thursday.) Hayward also said there were “missteps” in the days after the disaster, as when the company handed out small cash payments to locals if they signed a contract barring them for making claims later.

Doctors from the American Medical Association reported Thursday that oxygen—an abundant element in the atmosphere that makes up the majority of the “air” regularly inhaled by creatures on Earth—is in fact beneficial. Humans have long assumed that respiration was connected in some way to sustained life, but today’s announcement served as confirmation of those loosely held beliefs. “We can say with certainty that breathing oxygen is an important part of staying alive,” Dr. Ima Lummox said. “Humans, animals and even plants are encouraged to continue respiring as part of their daily routines without fear of harm.”
